When I was a child, it was my family's tradition to find out what the children would do in life so at two years old they sat me down in front of a pencil, a dollar and some food. I picked the pencil. This started a life-long journey of drawing.
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and have been doing art for over 30 years. I remember being noticed by my classmates that I drew really good birds in grade one and my grade four teacher, Miss Miller, noticed my aptitude in art and suggested I take courses at the Art Gallery of Edmonton. I continued with art and completed the Graphic Design program at Grant McEwan College in Edmonton but I didn't start selling my work until I had started my family and joined the Peace River Art Club in Peace River, Alberta, where I was living at the time. My subjects range from human and animal portraits to landscapes to florals (with the odd semi-truck thrown in).
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
I am a Virgo, so I notice detail - the detail that we often miss in our day-to-day lives; the play of shadow and bright-lights, the subtleties of color and the haziness created by depth of field. Capturing the beauty of the world around me connects me to the power and majesty my soul and what I have created, I hope, transfers to uplift the observer.
I've tried many different mediums over the years but I've found I'm the most comfortable working in colored pencil. In that arena, starting with an underpainting in acrylic and burnishing the soft artist pencil overtop gives me the most vibrancy and control. I still find myself going back to pencil, pen and ink, and a more graphic style, just for a change.
I have shown my work with the Peace River Art Club in Peace River, Alberta and at the 1995 Grande Prairie Canada Winter Games in Grande Prairie, Alberta. My colored-pencil painting of the “Sunflower” won a juried US contest and was featured in a major company’s yearly calendar and my painting for the Peace River Porpoises Swim Club still hangs at the Peace Regional Pool in Peace River, Alberta.
